Pete's Schedule Previews

The 2006 Ratings and Previews

"It's official ... the 2006 season has begun", and this year is better than ever at Pete's; your best source for I-AA football. Once again, Pete's will be rating each team's schedule prior to the beginning of the season. We will cover each of the teams by conference, and in alphabetical order. So take a look and see how your team compares. Here are a few things about the rankings:

Pete's schedule ratings/preview uses the official schedules reported to the NCAA, so there could be inaccuracies. We encourage readers to look at each team's rating by conference, and not overall. It is not fair to compare teams from one conference, to another. Coaches (excluding independents) build and prepare their clubs for the games within the conference. Non-conference games seldom get more than a week of preparation, prior to the contest. Also, clearly a majority of any team's schedule is against opponents from within their respective conference.

The factors used in the ratings:

  • Home vs Away: the factor for an away game is higher than a neutral site, or home, contest.
  • Sub-IAA vs I-AA vs IA: although Pete's has always discouraged the playing of these types of contests; we apply a greater factor to IA opposition, and a lower factor to the playing of sub-IAA competition. Pete's ranks lower for each sub-IAA level; for example, an NAIA opponent has much lower factor than a DII club. However, we do not rank teams below the I-AA level, so the factor is exactly the same at each level. Therefore the factor for all DII clubs is the same. We will let the fans argue about how good, or poor, the DII's really are.
However, once again, Pete's will use the Congrove Computer Rankings for the factor of the IA clubs. Also, non-scholarship clubs are also ranked lower than I-AA scholarshipped clubs ... at about the same level as sub-IAA teams.
