2006 Atlantic-10 Pre-Season Schedule Previews
|
- Villanova: The Wildcats
have the most challenging schedule in the
A-10. An opener at Central Florida could prove
very interesting. In addition, the non-conference
portion also includes games with Penn and
Lehigh. The conference portion is balanced
... with UMass, Richmond, and JMU at home.
- Northeastern: The Huskies
again have one of the A-10's most-challenging
schedules; last season they were rated first.
In 2006, the Huskies play 5 games in September;
despite not having a home date until October
7th. This five game road-swing will see VA-Tech,
Holy-Cross, NDSU, JMU, and Richmond. If Rocky
Hager's club survives this, they play the
entire month of October in the friendly confines
of Parsons Field.
- Maine: The 2006 Black
Bear schedule is perfectly balanced, and substantially
difficult. The OOC slate includes road games
at IA Boston College and YSU ... along with
a home sub-IAA home opener. The A-10 portion
of the schedule is balanced at 4.
- William & Mary: The 2006
Tribe schedule is interesting; although it
lacks a high-end, non-conference, I-AA opponent.
In addition to an opening date at Maryland,
coach Laycock's club will face OOC contests
with VMI and Liberty. In conference action,
W&M will face 5-of-8 games as the visiting
team.
- Rhode Island: The Rams
are in at number-5. In the non-conference
portion the schedule, the Rams will face UConn,
Brown, and a sub-IAA. The A-10 slate is well-balanced
at four home and away. Nice job by the Rams
AD on this schedule.
- Hofstra: The Pride will
face nine A-10 opponents in 2006. The non-conference
slate is away games a Stony brook and IA Marshall.
The conference slate is 4 home and 5 away
... with the road games having a higher degree
of difficulty.
- Richmond: The 2006 Spider
Schedule also contains three non-conference
games, and no sub-IAA game. The IA match is
very exciting against a struggling Duke. In
addition, games against Bucknell and VMI are
more than winnable. The conference portion
of the schedule is challenging and evenly-split
... home vs. away. This is a very good schedule.
- New Hampshire: NHU will
open a week later than most, at Big-10 Northwestern.
This is followed up by OOC tilts with Storybook
and Dartmouth. The A-10 slate is light this
year, with an even split on home vs. away.
- Massachusetts:The Minutemen
open up 2006 with Colgate; a battle of traditional
powers expected to see a re-birth this season.
Other non-conference games include Navy and
Stony Brook. Winning all three of these games
is not inconceivable. The conference portion
of the schedule is evenly split.
- Towson St.:The Tigers
have a chance to do well with this schedule
in 2006. The first three games include Morgan
St., Liberty, and Elon. The A-10 portion is
solid, with much of the difficulty being at
home.
- James Madison: The Dukes
2006 schedule includes OOC matches with DII
Bloomsburg, VMI, and a trip to Appalachian
St.. Do not be fooled by the name; Bloomsburg
can play quality football. The conference
slate is light, evenly split, with most of
the challenge coming at home. Just a bit of
advice ...take Bloomsburg for granted, and
they will beat you.
- Delaware: If you are looking
for a schedule to get back into the "swing
of things" ...this is it. The Hens face
two non-conference opponents in West Chester
and Albany; both non-scholarship. All one
can say is that this should not be enough
for an at-large berth, so the Hens had better
win their half of the A-10 ...at least.
