Pete's 2006 SoCon Pre-Season Schedule Previews
  1. Wofford: The terriers of Wofford have the most challenging schedule in the SoCon for 2006. Their opener is against what should be a very good S. Carolina State club. This is followed by Coastal-Carolina and a trip to S. Carolina. The final non-conference game is against Gardner-Webb. In SoCon action, Wofford will visit GSU and ASU …while hosting Furman.

  2. Chattanooga: The Mocs will open up 2006 with three straight road contests. The first will be at what should be a very solid, and improving, Tenn.-Tech program, followed by IA Memphis …and closing the trip in Bowling Green vs. perennial power Western Kentucky. November will bring a visit from OVC power Jacksonville State for the final OOC game. In conference play, Chatty will face GSU and ASU at home, while having to travel for the contest with Furman.

  3. Citadel: The Citadel did not end up with the SoCon’s most difficult schedule, despite having two IA traditional powers on their schedule. The Bulldogs will travel to both Texas A&M and Pitt in 2006. Additional OOC games include home tilts with VMI and Charleston Southern. The conference slate will see ASU and Furman away, with GSU coming to Johnson Hagood Stadium.

  4. Elon: Elon have a very balanced schedule in 2006. The OOC portion includes a trip to Coastal-Carolina and N. Carolina A&T. Non-conference contests at home will include Towson and Presbyterian. The Phoenix’ SoCon slate will include trips to ASU, GSU, and Chattanooga … with the remainder in Elon.

  5. Furman: The Paladins have a schedule that can put them back into the post-season in 2006. The OOC portion includes the Tar Heels of North Carolina, JSU, Coastal, and a sub-IAA game. The conference slate sees games with GSU and ASU split …with the Paladins hosting the Eagles in the final game of the regular season.

  6. Appalachian St.: The “men of Boone” will look to defend their national title with a very nice schedule in 2006. Non-conference action includes IA North Carolina St and a good match-up with JMU. Also, the Mountaineers will travel to face Gardner-Webb, and host a sub-IAA. In conference action, the games against GSU and Furman are split …but back-to-back on 10/21 and 10/28. The battle for the “Old Mountain Jug” will be at Western Carolina this year.

  7. Western Carolina: Western Carolina wishes this was already October, as they will face Eastern Kentucky, GSU, and Furman in September. There will be another OOC game in November, as the Cats travel to Liberty. In addition, their last two games of the regular-season will be for the “jug” against ASU, and a late fall trip to Florida to play the Gators.

  8. Georgia Southern: Everyone looks to see the new Eagles offense, as coach VanGorder has plenty of talent to work with. The schedule is very conducive to a team with a new staff as well. The non-conference portion of the schedule is relatively light …featuring Coastal, a very good NDSU, a new I-AA team in Central Ark., and a non-scholarship CCSU. This schedule will feature 7 home games.
